What We Do
Our Dogs
German Shepherds and Dobermans innately protect those they love, trust, and are bonded to. Survivors of domestic violence need and deserve safety, emotional support, and unconditional love. This partnership is the work of Kelly’s K9s.
Our German Shepherds and Dobermans undergo rigorous obedience and protection training and are carefully matched with survivors of domestic violence to ensure their safety and security. This matching process starts before the dogs are even born and continues with ongoing training throughout their lives.
Why German Shepherds and Dobermans?
German Shepherds and Dobermans are genetically dispositioned to protect those they love. Highly intelligent and quick learners, they are loyal, protective, vigilant, and obedient. German Shepherds and Dobermans have a brave and fearless nature, making them extremely effective in police and military roles. While they can be aloof with strangers, they are friendly with those that they, and their family, trust. Overall, German Shepherds and Dobermans are known for their balance of strength, intelligence, and protectiveness, making them an excellent choice for survivors of domestic violence. They are loyal defenders and protectors. They protect, not through aggression or hurting others, but rather to keep others from hurting their loved ones.
Prepping Our Pups
Breeding German Shepherds and Dobermans requires careful planning, a good understanding of genetics, and valuing the health and well-being of both the dogs and their puppies. Each and every dog receives the highest quality of veterinary care, including routine care and vaccinations, as well as proper nutrition and exercise. Dogs are selected for breeding based on the characteristics that would best suit a Kelly’s K9s survivor – confident, motivated, sociable, affectionate, and loyal.
As puppies grow over the first months of their life, our priorities are to assess temperament and behavior, encourage unlimited play, build confidence in new environments and stimuli, give love, support socialization, and foster motivation. Puppies with these experiences and qualities excel in training, including obedience and protection work. This comprehensive process ensures that we are preparing skilled protection dogs, who are also affectionate, playful, and well-socialized with people, children, and other animals in various environments.
